“I’ve started thinking about pure electronic music again. Something very melodic, very aggressive. [..] In a very loose way, what I was trying to say is that this is music which doesn’t contain any live performance as such. It’s music which is generated purely from programming. There’s no live guitar or drums, there’s nothing in it which is live, really. At all”. – Squarepusher
Ufabulum was said to be Squarepusher’s most dynamic and awe inspiring live show. An ambitious combination of light and sound, creating a visual experience that suits the record. The project features an own development of Jenkinson’s live work, the “video-synthesiser” that generates imagery according to control data and audio input. Custom designed, the visuals for each piece has two components, one dispalyed on a large LED wall behind the stage and the other on a head-mounted screen worn by Squarepusher himself.

I have to admit that this was one of the less interesting shows Squarepusher has performed so far. The music was too ‘experimental’ for the venue, the sound reminded me too much of early 80ies synthesizers and videogames. I’ve seen many people in the audience who were equally surprised. The applause seemed to be rather supportive than enthusiastic and even Acid Pauli scratched his head in the back of the room. Squarepusher certainly did not live up to my high expectations which I had since the last show I’ve seen in 2009.
