In December 2011 the World Opera in collaboration with University Tromsø, Kulturhuset Tromsø and the Verdione research project produced their first 2-site distributed opera performance ‘La Serva Padrona’. The script was based on an opera from the 17th century written by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi.
Technical head, Jason Geistweidt, explains: ‘The production explores the space between the spaces, an artform that links multiple performance spaces in realtime through the network. For live audio streaming we use JackTrip and uncompressed audio coming directly from the mixing desks at both sites. This gives us the lowest possible audio delay at maximum quality. SD-quality video is streamed via UltraVideo also in uncompressed form. All together we use 3 bi-directional video streams and 8 bi-directional audio streams.’
Here is Katrin Beckmann’s (creativeoffice.us) documentary of the distributed staging.
